She Sings the City Eclectic

Suzanne Vega grew up in Spanish Harlem and on the Upper West Side, and “Luka” would not represent the only time that she used the city as her muse. The city also provided inspiration for her other hit single, the a cappella song “Tom’s Diner,” which was released in 1987 and made the charts in 1990 when it was remixed and set to a muscular dance rhythm.
